There are a number of health related benefits one will derive from consuming olive oil? But, how about emotional problems and issues, such as depression? Research has suggested that a diet high in olive oil, and other similar monounsaturated fats, has been found to help reduce the occurrence of mental illnesses. Stroke, coronary disease, and other illnesses, were all found to have been reduced, in groups of individuals who consumed these oils on a regular basis.
In addition to these mental illnesses, depression and other emotional issues were also studied, in various individuals who took part in studies. Studies showed that individuals who suffered from depression and other similar emotional problems, were previously consuming high intake of trans fats and hydrogenated fats. Processed foods were consumed by these individuals as well in high quantities. In another study, it was shown that individuals who consumed a diet that was higher in intake of olive oil and other polyunsaturated fats, showed fewer cases of depression or emotional distress. The result of these test groups showed a link that depression may share many of the common factors and common mechanisms related to the diet.
Previous research conducted also showed that olive oil, and the Mediterranean diet, was linked to lower depression rates, lower mental illness rates, and reduced various other ailments, which were commonly found in individuals who consumed processed foods, and bad fats in their diet. Research suggested that individuals who followed the Mediterranean diet (or one that is high in mono and polyunsaturated fats), were up to 30% less likely to ever suffer from emotional problems, like depression. Studies also proved that making small changes to the diet, such as eliminating processed foods, or incorporating the right fats in to the diet, would also help reduce the occurrence of depression and other emotional distress problems.
Like other factors in your life, your diet is a main contributing factor to your overall health and well being. It seems that the diet is also going to play an integral role in emotional health problems, and not only health related problems. Consuming olive oil, eliminating processed foods, and eliminating poor choices in the diet, can help improve overall well being. Not only is olive oil responsible for a variety of health related benefits, but it has also been studied, and proven to assist in reducing emotional health problems, such as depression, which is extremely common in people living in the US.
